San Francisco Tile Letterpressed 7 Ways

San Francisco Tile Letterpress Wedding Invitation Letterpressed 7 ways by DelphineSan Franciso Tile has always been one of my favorite Delphine designs. I like the clean, simple layout. I prefer it with sans serif fonts like Gill Sans or Futura, but some clients have been ordering it lately with script fonts. The look is growing on me. What do you prefer? Fancy script or simple sans serif?

in the kitchen: cupcakes

When I was in San Francisco a few weeks ago a friend gave me Martha Stewart’s newest book: Cupcakes. A quick trip to the market and a slight takeover of my cousin’s kitchen, and I was making Triple Citrus Cupcakes. Martha has a video on her website here. They were fun to make, really pretty, and quite yummy (though quite heavy … halfway through the recipe I realized that I was essentially making a pound cake batter).

designing mom: shinmin

I had the extreme pleasure of visiting fellow Designing Mom Shinmin at her shop, I Dream of Cake, today. I love that she sometimes brings her daughter to work with her in a sling.

It was super fun to see behind the scenes how her amazing cakes are made. And super yummy to taste them! I loved the Thai coconut flavor. Mmmmm.

step and repeat

A few weeks ago while in San Francisco I snapped this picture at the Ferry Building of the butcher shop Boccalone. While they probably only really need one or two rolls of stickers at the ready, they hung up more than a dozen, creating a cool graphic element. When in doubt, step and repeat. Always works. I’ve used the trick many times when I have creative block and am stuck on a project.

fleur de lys

The fleur de lys (or fleur de lis, in English) motif is near and dear to my heart because of my French roots. Fun fact: when my mom became an American citizen she wore fleur de lys earrings! I took the photo in San Francisco on my last trip. I can’t remember the building, but I do remember it was a column and I love the watery celadon background color paired with the stone.

lunch table: la boulange

photos by delphine

One of my favorite spots in San Francisco: La Boulange. The exterior of the building is so inviting with its bright leaf green accents. I love that they stenciled the name onto the building with paint: they didn’t have to spend a lot of money on expensive signage to create an effective storefront.

inspiration: california

Yesterday John and I strolled around the Ferry Building (San Francisco, California) while killing some time between meetings. I loved seeing so much great graphic design in one place. (and the food and goodies looked delicious, too). The Far West Fungi stall was by far my favorite stall. Beautiful and interesting goods, amazing merchandising, and welcoming vibe overall. J does NOT like mushrooms, so I had to quickly snap a few photos while he powered by. We are taking the ferry tonight, so I will to sneak back while J waits (I think I can bribe him with a gelato) so I can buy some infused oils to take home for my dad. I bought a little surprise for my Mom at the Miette confiserie.
