French Rattan Lounge Chair Summer Wish List by DelphineLately I’ve been day dreaming about lounging with a great book and a yummy cocktail. This summer you’ll find me relaxing in my backyard, but my head will be in the Côte d’Azure.

color palette: moody luxe inspired by alexander mcQueen

In just a few days I’ll be in New York! Of course I’m looking forward to all the trade shows and seeing a ton of great designs (and designers); but I admit that I’m most looking forward to a visit to the Met with a dear friend to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit

intern post: inspired by paris

GUEST POST by Delphine intern, Courtney Fone

This past summer I had the chance to study abroad in London. During one of the weekends I took a side trip to Paris. This city of vintage type and amazing architecture was a great source of inspiration for my current work. Recently I had the chance to design a poster for the SDSU Theatre through a design course. Much of this poster came from my experience in Paris.

All photos and poster design by Courtney Fone.  Reminder: you may click on just about any image on this blog to see it larger.

inspired by: the eiffel tower

My grandmother  (Delphine) lived in Paris for many years, has been back to visit dozens of times, and yet has never been to the top of the Eiffel Tower because it is “for tourists.” What a shame, non? Are there touristy things in your own city that you have never visited? I am guilty of having never visited lots of tourist attractions in San Diego. Like the Star of India. Silly of me. Oui!

Shown above: 1: Eiffel Tower necklace from Forever 21  2: Limited Edition Eiffel Tower Letterpress Notecards by Delphine  3: Delightful pink beret by Crafts2Cherish on Etsy  4: Pink and black Eiffel Tower fabric by Michael Miller Fabric  5: Eiffel Tower Caramel Bon bons from Saveur du Jour  6: Authentic French timbres (stamps) from Washington Stamps.

le swoon. le sigh. magnifique!

Those of you who know me (comfy jeans and cardigans are just about the only thing in my closet) may be surprised to learn that one of my fantasies is to attend Paris Fashion week so that I can experience the loveliness that is haute couture. Like this collection by Christian Lacroix. I would feel terribly inadequate and have night terorrs about what to wear to the shows, yet if I had a ticket I’d go in a heart beat. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on my mom’s lap while she read Vogue. At the age of three I probably knew more about fashion than I do now.

dreaming of champagne in Paris

I’ve been dreaming of Paris lately, which inspired this little montage.

The dress (which I could never wear because I’d be afraid to sit down in it, but love) is by Alice & Olivia. The gold J. Crew heels remind me of a pair I love to borrow from my Mom (she’s had them for more than 30 years). The triple coil earrings are from GirlProps.com. The champagne is Perrier-Jouet. And the Roost Golden Berry champagne flutes (which I LOVE and want sooooo bad) are available at Dreamy.

inspiration: stamped concrete in Paris

Loving the stamped concrete detail on this home’s exterior, as well as the reflection of the chestnut tree in the window. The location is divine, too: the banks of the Seine River in Paris.

9th anniversary

Nine years ago John & I were married at The Circular Congregational Church in my “hometown” and favorite city of all time: Charleston, South Carolina. We had a wonderful wedding reception at The Mills House before we jetted off to my other favorite city, Paris, for our honeymoon. When we got married John was a First Lieutenant in the U.S.M.C., and I worked as an advertising editor at a small town newspaper. John looked so handsome in his dress blues! I never guessed that we’d end up in California and start our own design business … but here we are. So lucky! I love working together.

I wish I could say that we are taking a day off to celebrate, but, with the National Stationery Show coming up in less than a month, the best we can do is a day out of the studio running errands together. So, we’re off to Ikea to pick out some furniture for the show.
