Color Fun

Color if Fun via Delphine EphemeraI’ve had color, color, color on the brain lately. I’m loving everything chromatic these days. Here are some fun ways to introduce a bit of color into your life. I just bought the 2-tone balloons from Brooklyn Bride’s Pop Up Shop to use at an upcoming party. Love them so much, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to wait until the party to blow them up!

Bold & Bright | A Vibrant Neon Color Palette

bold bright neon color palette via delphineHere in Charleston, rainy days abound. Last week, after 3 straight days of clouds, I had had it. To compensate I busted out my brightest shirt. It helped.

color palette: bright and bejeweled inspired by gwyneth paltrow’s oscar 2011 look

I missed most of the Academy Awards this year because I was working on a deadline. But I did manage to catch a glimpse here and there, and I loved Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress and brooch. The stark silvery white background, with an unexpected pop of bright color is such a happy color palette.

No. 1 Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress at the Oscars 2011 inspired this colorful palette (photo by Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com)    No. 2. I love using the Kendra Scott color bar — I created these colorful earrings to mimic the look of Gwyneth’s jeweled brooch   No. 3 A fun fondue set from Crate & Barrel — would be fun for a screening party   No. 4 White couch with bright chairs by Roche Bobois   No. 5 Gwyneth Paltrow’s brooch at the Oscars 2011   No. 6. Delphine’s Ava and Amelie wedding invitations — our most popular invitation designs have been printed in just about any color combo you can imagine. I especially like them in bright colors like yellow and pink   No. 7 Alice in Wonderland — love the colors in this Walt Disney cartoon classic  No. 8 Pink and Orange china by William Yeoward from Michael C. Fina — I think they’d look fabulous as a mix and match set.

At the Pantone color trend seminar I attended last month, “black and white with pops of bright colors” was one of the color palettes discussed as being important for 2011 and 2012 product design. I like what I see so far!

lunch table: la boulange

photos by delphine

One of my favorite spots in San Francisco: La Boulange. The exterior of the building is so inviting with its bright leaf green accents. I love that they stenciled the name onto the building with paint: they didn’t have to spend a lot of money on expensive signage to create an effective storefront.

studio props: fabric backdrops

Monday I went prop shopping with my photographer friend Jessica for fabric: Jess was looking for backdrops for her baby and maternity portraits, and I was looking for backdrops to match the upcoming 2009 stationery collections.

I always love to hit the back room/remnants at We R Fabrics to find treasures. After sifting through bolts and bolts and bolts of 1980′s country club tapestry, we did come up with a couple of winners, but the experience left us wondering where we could find a proper game of tennis and a white wine spritzer. Of course we found tons of things we loved in the front of the store, including some bright and modern Duralee prints, but it seemed like everything we picked out was $49 per yard!

So we headed to Yardage Town in Encinitas, where we scored with some super bright and fun prints from their remnant table. After a while we had to cut ourselves off … “step away from the chili pepper fabric.” The fabric I’m most excited about is the faux bear fur that Jess bought as a prop for infant photo shoots. Can’t wait to see what cute baby photos Jess comes up with!

color trend: paisley

My bff sent me this photograph of her dad, taken at a family wedding last year. Ron says “this jacket was made new for me in 1970 and it still fits!”
I’m thinking Ron could start a new color trend: psychedelic paisley.

new from charleston collection: sullivan

sullivan design, new from delphine‘s charleston collection

“Sullivan,” one of the new designs from our upcoming Charleston Collection, is named after Sullivan’s Island, the “next door island” to where I grew up (Isle of Palms, South Carolina). I chose the deep marine blue ink because it reminds me of summer nights on the island, and the bright crocus ink is a nod to my mom’s favorite color circa 1983!
