My Newest Treasure: Rock Crystal Necklace

Natural Rock Crystal Necklace by delphineA few weeks ago I went to the Gem Faire in Del Mar, California with my mom. Mom, among her many talents, is a jewelry designer. I scored a pile of natural crystals and Mom turned them into this gorgeous statement necklace. It’s made of real rock crystals, so it’s quite heavy, but totally worth the neck strain. Merci, Maman!

statement necklace

Mémé Delphine’s favorite store is Talbots. (She pronounces it “Tal-bo,” which makes it sound so chic). So I have spent many hours sitting in the “husband” chair waiting for her. But next time I’m in there I am going to head over to the accessories department, because I see that they have some very cool, hip necklaces, like the pretty one shown above. I like the understated hues, paired with not-too-shiny gold. It’s chunky, but not crazy heavy looking.

Choosing a statement piece of jewelry for your wedding day is tricky — look for something that reflects your personality, isn’t too trendy, and will stand the test of time. I particularly like something that you can dress down, and wear with a white shirt and jeans. Every time I wear my wedding day necklace I think of the first time I wore it, and how amazing that day was.

love: faux floral boutonnieres

While there is nothing quite like a gorgeous fresh flower, I quite like this idea of faux floral boutonnieres. Aren’t these lovely? I spotted them on Etsy, by The One Happy Girl. I don’t see why you can’t have lush fresh floral arrangements and timeless details like these “faux fresh” lovelies. It’s little bits like this, I believe, that define an event, agreed?

wish list: party jewels

All of a sudden my social calendar is full of cocktail parties! Yay! But what to wear??? On my wish list now: these three lovely party jewels. The Banana Republic multi-strand silver necklace with a leaf detail would be a great layering piece (and it’s on sale!). You can’t beat Forever21′s awesome prices. This cool twisted necklace is only $11 and the darling turquoise bead chandelier earrings are even less!

oh so chic: green feather hair clip

Isn’t this green feather hair clip by Lucia Bella gorgeous? She says her designs are inspired by vintage glam, couture, and rock & roll. I can see all three here for sure! Trés chic for a rehearsal dinner outfit or a glamourous bride. It might be too much for a gaggle of bridesmaids to have the exact same clip, but if they had similar ones, perhaps chosen to complement their hair color (and the dresses, of course)  … how great would that be? Swoon.

bejeweled: fanciful fish

I wore my new fishy necklace the other day. It’s pretty wacky and big (the fish is about 4 inches long) for me, but there’s just something about it that I love. As a rule, I don’t buy much jewelry since I’m able to “borrow” from my mom’s inventory (she’s a jewelry designer). But at $4.80 I couldn’t pass this fishy up. I got it at Forever 21. For less than five bucks. Did I mention that it cost less than five dollars? For real.

Just in case anyone you know (ahem*cough*cough) has an anniversary or birthday coming up … this jewelry box from west elm would make a lovely gift. Even better if it had this Taurus necklace inside.

shopping: back to black

headband from anthropologie

After a several-year-long relationship with all things brown, then a brief affair with grey, I’m back to my old true love: black. I just bought this black floral headband from Anthropolgie. The last time I bought myself headband was probably high school! I think it might be a bit much with my glasses, but on “contact” days I’m going to try it out. What do you think? Headbands yay or gag?

weddings: in love with accessories

photos by vallentyne photography ~ jewelry and hair accessories by the tiara room

gown by va lena valentina

Just gorgeous! I’m really liking this trend of feather-y head gear for bridal couture, instead of super sparkly tiara (which sometimes seems a little Hello, Kitty to me).

we heart a good sale: 30 percent off at violet.com

Last night I had a dream that I was birthday present shopping for a friend, and this morning this 30 percent off offer from Violet.com landed in my inbox. I think someone is trying to tell me something? Like I need to pay attention to the calendar and my friends’ birthdays?!?

I’m loving this Paul Smith-esque paper weight, minimalist white calculator (for some reason my brain is telling me I need this calculator), and the funky Modern Alchemy candle (I have no idea what it smells like, but love the packaging!). All from Violet.com. I’ve always loved their website because you can search gifts by the recipient’s personality type (I seem to know a lot of A+ types!). And the site is beautiful, making shopping a nice design experience.

Enter in the code SP309 at checkout to get 30 percent off anything in the store. Sale ends Friday, March 27, 2009.

plum desires

plum necklace by Dinosaur Toes on ETSY; plum shoes by Lela Rose for Payless

Plum is such a rich color, isn’t it? It can be a little Dynasty when done wrong, but I like the modern take on these goodies with the frayed edges. The necklace reminds me of a crocus. The shoes would look fab with a suit, worn at a Junior League committee meeting … or equally chic with dark jeans and a black cbgb tshirt. And guess what … you can have both for under $55.
