Hello, February!

Delphine-Calendar-2013-FebruaryOh, hello, February! How did you sneak up on me like this? It’s going to be a fun month: we’re busy in the studio working on some brand new Delphine wedding invitation designs, which I’ll preview soon. Valentine’s Day is around the corner … the perfect opportunity to mail out  valentine’s day photo card  to all your loved ones if you never did get around to Christmas or New Year’s cards.

Also this month I’m headed back to Cali for Tradeshow Camp’s PAPER CAMP. I’m so excited to meet all our new students, catch up with some of my favorite paper peeps, and visit with my family & friends.

Wine and Cheese

wine and cheese party via delphine

Chilly weather is the perfect time for casual get togethers with neighbors and friends. My parents are the ultimate hosts, and they taught me to always have some cheese, wine and crackers in the kitchen, so as to be prepared for guests at any time. The tip has served me well, and I’m looking forward to lots of impromptu happy hours at my place with my neighbors this winter.

Right now I use an old wood cutting board for serving, but it’s old in a scary did-you-find-that-in-a-dumpster way, not in a that-must-be-from-a-turn-of-the-century-estate-sale kind of way. I’d love to have a fancy slate board or a pretty wood serving paddle so I can serve in style (holiday elves, are you listening?). Also on my wish list is the darling juice glass caddy from Bixby & Ball — I’d use it for dips, cornichons, and olives.

Entertaining wish list, clockwise from Crate & Barrel Slate Board / Crate & Barrel Cheese Tool Set / Northern Natives Numbered Wood Coasters via Etsy / Yummy Saxelby Cheesmongers Choice / Orange & Pear Rams Head Knife Set / Crate & Barrel Acacia tree slice serving platter / West Elm Raw Wood Board /Bixby & Ball Juice Glass Caddy

Bedroom Décor Wish List

wish list bedroom decor

Like I mentioned yesterday, John and I are finally getting around to decorating our bedroom (we only moved in, oh, 7 1/2 years ago). Out with the gross dijon mustard and in with clean light gray, white, and sunny yellow. With some light greens and turquoises, too.

At the top of my wish list for the new room: //1// Kartel Bourgie Lamp    //2// Yellow Flower Pillow: Maypop from Anthropologie     //3// Engineered wood floors     //4// Yellow ombre basket for extra blankies from The Container Store     //5// Exquisite vintage gray sheets from Restoration Hardware     //6// Cozy gray cable knit blanket from Restoration Hardware     //7// Our own vintage couch recovered in linen to look like this one from Wisteria   //8// H20 bedside water carafe from Bixby & Ball.

big weekend plans

//photo: Erika Firm

We’ve been working so hard getting those new wedding invitation albums finished that we are taking a much needed weekend off from work. We’re going to spend our weekend having fun: building a treehouse, roasting some marshmallows with the neighbors, swimming in the pool, walking on the beach, reading magazines, watching silly family movies, and just hanging out.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend with your friends and family, too.   xoxo—e.

summer treat: shave ice

//photos: Erika Firm

Why did nobody tell me how amazing Hawaiian shave ice is before? YUMMY. I had a chance to try it for the first time a few weeks ago at the Gravy co-working event Lori hosted at her lovely Paper & Thread studio (photos coming soon of her super adorable workspace). It was about a zillion times yummier than any other shaved ice treat I’ve had before. I am so thankful to the Gravy team for introducing me to Kam Shave Ice. I am planning a trip to Oceanside Pier so I can have more soon. See you there!

i hate talking on the phone

Pictured above: my preferred form of communication circa 1988 and present day. {I had a red phone just like this one in the 1980s; I WISH I had an iPad today}

I have an iphone, which is nearly always turned off, out of batteries, in the car (while I am elsewhere) or lost in the depths of a tote bag (with the ringer turned off). If you are a close friend or family member and haven’t heard from me in the past year (or 5) you’re not alone. Confession: I positively hate calling people and only tolerate chatting on the phone when they call me. I will close-to-never pick up the phone to call you. If you want to talk to me, you must call me at the studio. I’m not proud of it, but I’ve come to accept it about myself. For many years I’ve been wracked with guilt for not keeping in better touch with friends & family (me, with a warehouse worth of cards sitting around. Shameful, I KNOW. I know.). I’m not anti-social (really) — it’s just that I prefer face to face communication (I love catching up over coffee), or written communication (I love emails and Twitter). Miss me? I miss you, too. Thinking of me? I’m thinking of you, too. Lets make a date and hang out. Email me & we’ll schedule it.

Here’s the thing … I used up all of my lets chat on the phone for hours energy in the late 1980s/early1990s. Now that I think about it, the only two people I talk to on the phone regularly are the same two people I stayed up past bedtime with in 1988 talking about boys.

studio sale: magazines

I need to make some space in the studio for actual work … and I need to raise some cash for new studio supplies (the Apple store is calling my name) … so I’m putting some of my beloved treasures, including the last two issues of Domino magazine, up for sale.

You can buy the last issue of Domino here, and help me raise some cash for some much needed new studio supplies. I’ll be posting new magazines later this week, including all the Blueprint magazines, and old Martha Stewart Weddings magazines going back to 1998. Happy bidding!
