8th Annual Stationery Meetup featured in Stationery Trends

Delphine-NSS-Meetup-2012-Stationery-TrendsIt’s a very good snail mail day when any issue of Stationery Trends magazine lands on our desk, but it was one of the best days ever when the latest (Spring 2013 – NSS) issue arrived with a lovely story about our 8th Annual Stationery Meetup.

stationery show meetup 2012 delphine partyLast year’s meetup was covered in Stationery Trends’ inaugural “An Event To Remember” column & I just love looking at the pictures and re-living last year’s big bash, which was co-hosted by Oh So Beautiful Paper

nss 2013 stationery trends issue at delphineLets talk about the gorgeous redesign of the magazine for a moment. The Stationery Trends team handled everything in-house … and in less than six months!

Sarah Schwartz, editor, says, “At a company retreat this past fall, the entire Stationery Trends team met for what we’ve all started calling ‘the fireside chat’ — it was at a B&B in front of a fake fireplace. During it, we reviewed several consumer books and discussed in a rather macro way what we hoped to achieve with the new look. Later, our graphic designer Laura Nagle and I would usually talk about each specific element  — logo, cover, TOC, headers, footers, departments like Fresh Picks  — and come up with three options to show the team, who would vote on them.”

As a graphic designer, the “design by committee” approach that they used scares the pants off of me. But they pulled it off and the new Stationery Trends looks stunning. I love the clean, new look, the perfect black and white logo, and the fun mix of fonts used throughout the magazine.

After reading the issue cover — insert shout out to my girl and fellow Chromatic & Co. designer Claudia at Fig. 2 Design for landing the front cover — to cover I got super excited about heading to New York for the annual National Stationery Show in a few weeks. I can’t wait to reconnect with all the paper peeps at the J. Javits Center!

Erika Firm featured in Arts + Power issue of Riviera Magazine

Erika Firm featured in Arts + Power issue of Riviera Magazine San Diego 2011So happy to share that I was featured in San Diego Riviera‘s annual Arts + Power issue (December 2011).

The story covers inspiration (Mother Nature, Pinterest), design do’s (blues, yellows, and chevrons), next season forecast (melon/pistachio/gold palette), don’ts (neon for wedding … sorry!), and my favorite wedding details (the classics: proper menus).

Riviera Arts + Power 2011It was such a treat to be in my favorite issue of the year! Merci, Riviera.

Gray Chevron Wedding Invitation Featured in The Knot, Spring 2012

Delphine Featured in The Knot Magazine Spring 2012Delphine Gray Chevron Wedding Invitations featured in The Knot Spring 2012 magazineChevrons and the color gray … two of our favorite things combined for one super chic wedding invitation! Many thanks to The Knot for featuring our Chevron wedding invitation in their Spring 2012 magazine.

The Knot’s editors suggest green and yellow as lovely accents to gray and white color palette, and we couldn’t agree more. The best thing about gray is that it matches everything. I think it would be trés chic for bridesmaids to all wear gray dresses, with colorful heels of their choice. Pretty, right?

Chevron is one of our newest (and favorite) designs here at the studio, and I’m very happy to announce that now it’s also available in our favorite printing method: letterpress.

Delphine in the Press: The Knot TV

Delphine Rose invitation in yellow, blue and graySky blue Stone Gray and Honey Yellow color palette

Yellow Gray and Blue wedding invitation by Delphine

Exciting news! Delphine is on The Knot TV. (Check us out at at minute 20). I love the color palette from this episode: sky blue, stone gray and honey yellow. It’s super romantic without being fussy or overly feminine. I can totally envision it for an elegant barn wedding or a casual garden wedding.

The gray, blue and yellow look chic together on our Rose wedding invitation, don’t you think? I’d love to see the palette played out with a yellow rose bouquet tied with a blue velvet ribbon. I’m envisioning floaty gray bridesmaids dresses with blue shoes and dreamy wrist corsages tied with the same blue velvet ribbon. I think it’s time for wrist corsages to make a comeback!

Merci beaucoup to the ladies of The Knot for including us in this episode. It’s a great one (love the cocktail recipes!).

Wonderland Wedding Invitations featured in The Knot Fall-Winter 2011

The Knot Fall Winter 2011 magazinewonderland wedding invitation featured in The Knot Fall 2011 Winter 2011Many thanks to The Knot Southern California for featuring our Wonderland wedding invitation in their fall/winter 2011 issue!

We love the classic navy blue and kelly green color combination that the editors chose for the spread. It really shows off how nice dark colors look as backgrounds for invitations.

Our Wonderland wedding invitation design is available flat printed (better for flooding the background with color) or letterpress.

Behind the Scenes at our Chevron Picnic Photo Shoot

blue and white backyard picnic ideaEarlier this summer my dear friend Cyd came to visit. Technically, her visit was supposed to be purely vacation, but we managed to sneak in a quick photo shoot/picnic. You can see the Backyard Picnic photos on her blog.

A lot of styled photo shoots you see on blogs are just for show, but we wanted to actually have a little picnic party to introduce Cyd to my SoCal friends. The second Jennifer Dery was done snapping photos we all dug into the yummy food.  When it got dark we moved the party over to the fire pit and made s’mores. The evening was truly one of the biggest highlights of my summer.

Orange salad with mint and onions

One of my favorite things to serve for summer picnics is Orange Salad. We’re super lucky to have orange trees in our backyard, so we make it a lot. It’s refreshing and delicious for summer get togethers.

RECIPE: ORANGE SALAD. Serves 6-8

INGREDIENTS: 12 fresh oranges, 1/2 onion, 1 tsp. sea salt, fresh mint

DIRECTIONS: Slice oranges into small wedges (use a paring knife to remove all rind and membrane). Slice onion into very thin ribbons. Put in bowl and add salt. Toss gently. Sprinkle fresh mint leaves on top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Some behind the scenes shots from the Backyard Picnic photo shoot, which was inspired by one of our newest wedding invitation designs, Chevron, the color blue, Bixby & Ball, and summertime:

in the press: stationery trends first interactive issue

I may be a print designer, but I LOVE interactive magazines. I was super thrilled to be included in Stationery Trends’ very first interactive issue (Early Spring 2011/Pre-NSS). Many thanks to editor Sarah Schwartz and to author Abby Heugel for the cover story: an interview and profile with Delphine designer Erika Firm (moi). Merci, ladies! My story starts on page 26, but the whole issue is packed with paper goodness.

in the press: bridal insider

The Royal Wedding approaches! I hadn’t thought much about it until Eventity asked me to participate in an inspiration shoot with A Royal Wedding theme in San Diego. I whipped up some pretty menus using our Wonderland motif. Now I’m super curious to see what the paper goods at the “real” royal wedding look like. My gut tells me that Kate is going to look stunning, but the paper goods are going to be a bit stale and crazy traditional, if it’s anything like their uninspired wedding invitation. Where’s the drama??

Anyhoo, I’m officially on board for watching the Royal Wedding. Anyone planning a viewing party? Believe it or not, we don’t have a decent television in our house!

Many thanks to Eventity for including us in this inspiration shoot, and to Kristina Chartier Photography for shooting such lovely photos. Hop on over to Bridal Insider to see the lovely champagne, ivory and gold tablescape in all its glory.

in the press: weddings by the ritz-carlton magazine

Did you know The Ritz-Carlton has its own wedding magazine? It’s beautiful (and no, I’m not just saying that because our monogram wedding invitation was featured in the latest issue). If you’re planning a wedding on the formal side, Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton is full of fabulous, elegant ideas.

I really have warm fuzzy feelings for The Ritz-Carlton, because John and I stayed at their hotel in Palm Springs once (in the middle of summer — HOT!!!) and it was there that I realized I was sharing a fancy umbrella drink with the man I would marry.

Merci beaucoup to everyone at the Ritz for including Delphine in Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton magazine! (issue: January – June 2011).

in the press: uppercase magazine letterpress issue

I was an Uppercase fan before, but when I found out they were doing an issue about letterpress I was over the moon. Then they contacted us here at the Delphine studio for inclusion in the article! Fantabulous.

Each featured studio donated a stack of prints, which were inserted in the issue for subscribers. That’s our limited edition Valentine at the bottom left of the page. I hope they didn’t give that particular one out—- it was the “makeready” or mistake one used to protect the rest of the stack. If you look closely you’ll see it is printed twice. Oh, well.
