The other day my son and I had a summer snack of local South Carolina peaches and nectarines still warm from the sun, with homemade biscuits fresh from the oven. Yummy.
I couldn’t help but to snap a picture. The pretty combo of the sun faded orange, turquoise and green colors together made me smile.
I love this hand lettered sign from the local laundromat. The turquoise, black, yellow and red color palette is pretty retro cool, too, don’t you think?
While on vacation last Sunday I skipped breakfast and sought out the local Target to snag this Jason Wu for Target striped dress. I just love the unusual color combination of charcoal, mustard and blush. It’s pretty short on me, so I may have to use it as a Fall dress with tights, but I still love it. Right now it’s hanging on the outside door of my closet so I can admire the colors every time I pass by it.
Last weekend I went to the Gem Faire at the Del Mar Fairgrounds with Mom. I picked up a few strands of crystals and beads. Can’t wait to show you what she makes for me. I’m particularly excited about the big natural crystals (the white ones that look like rocks). I’m going to have so many shiny and sparkly new necklaces that I will just have to find reasons to leave the studio so I can wear them.
I think the vendors at the show (which is open to the public, by the way … you don’t need to have a wholesale license) picked up on the colors of my outfit—comfy jeans, grey sweater, pale green + taupe purse, neutral accessories—and kept showing me strands of the same color beads. It totally worked: I liked their suggestions and they made sales. It’s a great tip to remember when you’re exhibiting at a trade show: make suggestions to buyers. As a buyer, shows are totally overwhelming. A little nudge in the right direction is welcome in my book.
My favorite things all have to do with the sea: walks on the beach, snorkeling, swimming, uni, tide pools, fish tacos, sand in my toes, waves, sailing, and oysters. I’m not one for resolutions, but I do think I could get on board with more ocean in my life in 2012.
Last week I spotted these gorgeous vintage horse ribbons at Jennifer Price‘s boutique inside SoLo. I just love the color palette, which reminds me of summer peaches.
I can totally see these vintage prize ribbons in a wedding setting — perhaps as alternative to a boutonniere, or to mark table numbers (you can insert a photo in the center). So pretty!

This morning while fixing breakfast for my son I wore a sweater over my pjs … it’s officially Fall in my book, now. One thing that I look forward to each year is the return of Brach’s candy corn to the store shelves (and my belly).
I’m not too crazy about the new packaging. It’s not that it isn’t well designed … I like the layout just fine (and you know I’m a big fan of white space). I think candy corn is one of those nostalgic childhood memory type things … I miss the old packaging. Does that make me old?
Exciting news! Delphine is on The Knot TV. (Check us out at at minute 20). I love the color palette from this episode: sky blue, stone gray and honey yellow. It’s super romantic without being fussy or overly feminine. I can totally envision it for an elegant barn wedding or a casual garden wedding.
The gray, blue and yellow look chic together on our Rose wedding invitation, don’t you think? I’d love to see the palette played out with a yellow rose bouquet tied with a blue velvet ribbon. I’m envisioning floaty gray bridesmaids dresses with blue shoes and dreamy wrist corsages tied with the same blue velvet ribbon. I think it’s time for wrist corsages to make a comeback!
Merci beaucoup to the ladies of The Knot for including us in this episode. It’s a great one (love the cocktail recipes!).
The rich, saturated color palette here reminds me that summer’s end is around the corner. There is something overripe and sticky hot sweet about this photo. Maybe it’s just that the deep forest, white and freesia yellows remind me of magnolia blossoms and sticky hot Charleston summers. My mom snapped the photo a few weeks ago at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
Last weekend my family went on an adventure to gather wild artichoke blooms. We snipped an entire wagonload of the wild purple artichoke flowers, and I just love the color palette. Leave it up to Mother Nature to take my least favorite color, purple, and make it look fabulous. Who knew that mixing shades of purple, from lilac to deep aubergine, pairing it with artichoke green would be so beautiful? I’d love to see an interior designer take this palette and apply it to a dramatic dining room. It’s hard to show on screen, but the purple of the soft flowers is super bright—almost fluorescent. Bumblebees love them (spot one in the photo!). Mom is working on some arrangements using the blooms and I’ll share them with you soon.
In just a few days I’ll be in New York! Of course I’m looking forward to all the trade shows and seeing a ton of great designs (and designers); but I admit that I’m most looking forward to a visit to the Met with a dear friend to see the Alexander McQueen exhibit.
Mom planted a bunch of succulent cuttings in this pretty Italian wall well we had around the house. Who knows where we pick up all this stuff?!?? Love the color palette: verdant green, spring, rhubarb, stone and flame.
I missed most of the Academy Awards this year because I was working on a deadline. But I did manage to catch a glimpse here and there, and I loved Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress and brooch. The stark silvery white background, with an unexpected pop of bright color is such a happy color palette.
No. 1 Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress at the Oscars 2011 inspired this colorful palette (photo by Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.com) No. 2. I love using the Kendra Scott color bar — I created these colorful earrings to mimic the look of Gwyneth’s jeweled brooch No. 3 A fun fondue set from Crate & Barrel — would be fun for a screening party No. 4White couch with bright chairs by Roche Bobois No. 5 Gwyneth Paltrow’s brooch at the Oscars 2011 No. 6. Delphine’s Ava and Amelie wedding invitations — our most popular invitation designs have been printed in just about any color combo you can imagine. I especially like them in bright colors like yellow and pink No. 7Alice in Wonderland — love the colors in this Walt Disney cartoon classic No. 8Pink and Orange china by William Yeoward from Michael C. Fina — I think they’d look fabulous as a mix and match set.
At the Pantone color trend seminar I attended last month, “black and white with pops of bright colors” was one of the color palettes discussed as being important for 2011 and 2012 product design. I like what I see so far!
I love watching movies on my laptop while I’m working on tedious repetitive projects. Usually I have the movie showing in a little box in the corner of my screen. However 5 minutes into The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and my work file was forgotten and the film was full screen! The story is thrilling (after seeing this I went to the library so I could read all three books in the trilogy). But the visuals of this film are what really hooked me. The set design is truly stunning.
The color palette of this film, which is a dark thriller set in Sweden during winter, is a moody mix of cool dark blue greens and near-blacks: teal, verdigris, slate, stone and nightmare black. There were also some ochres and sepias in some of the interior shots.
So far this year, a turquoise, sky blue, mimosa yellow and lemon yellow color palette has been the best-selling ink colors for spring and summer wedding invitations. I predict the palette will darken a bit into darker versions of those same colors (like shown above) for fall and winter weddings. In the film the colors were dark and moody, but for a wedding I think they work really well, too. There’s something quite romantic about this color palette, don’t you think? I love the giant house in the top left corner. Wouldn’t you love to attend a wedding there? Sweden is now on my list of places I’d love to visit.

Ahem … not to brag or anything, but we were featured FOUR TIMES in the 2011 issue of Ceremony magazine. Woot. Many thanks to Adrianne Smith, fleuriste extraordinaire, who included our invitations in two of her tabletop shoots, including the pretty robin’s egg turquoise and purple cover shoot!
