My Newest Treasure: Rock Crystal Necklace

Natural Rock Crystal Necklace by delphineA few weeks ago I went to the Gem Faire in Del Mar, California with my mom. Mom, among her many talents, is a jewelry designer. I scored a pile of natural crystals and Mom turned them into this gorgeous statement necklace. It’s made of real rock crystals, so it’s quite heavy, but totally worth the neck strain. Merci, Maman!

Gray Chevron Wedding Invitation Featured in The Knot, Spring 2012

Delphine Featured in The Knot Magazine Spring 2012Delphine Gray Chevron Wedding Invitations featured in The Knot Spring 2012 magazineChevrons and the color gray … two of our favorite things combined for one super chic wedding invitation! Many thanks to The Knot for featuring our Chevron wedding invitation in their Spring 2012 magazine.

The Knot’s editors suggest green and yellow as lovely accents to gray and white color palette, and we couldn’t agree more. The best thing about gray is that it matches everything. I think it would be trés chic for bridesmaids to all wear gray dresses, with colorful heels of their choice. Pretty, right?

Chevron is one of our newest (and favorite) designs here at the studio, and I’m very happy to announce that now it’s also available in our favorite printing method: letterpress.

Giveaway: Five sets of 100 Business Cards by Delphine

Giveaway 100 Custom Business Cards by Delphine

GIVEAWAY TIME!!!! We’re giving away a set of 100 business/calling cards from the Delphine collection of personal stationery to FIVE lucky bloggers!

I’m slowly recovering from Alt Summit envy, but now SXSW envy, Blissdom envy and the rest are setting in. There are so many amazing events coming up for bloggers! Even though I’d love to be a conference junkie, my calendar is already overflowing with projects and deadlines. There is just no possible way for me to attend everything I want to attend.

I’m going to stalk conference attendees on Twitter live vicariously through all you bloggers who are living the dream & attending fun conferences. Near the very top of my “to pack” list for conferences, right next to comfy flats, cool new pen, and aspirin, is “big stack of business cards.” So I’ve decided to give 5 winners sets of 100 business cards from the Delphine collection of personal stationery.

Here are the rules: Use the handy “Rafflecopter” widget to enter. Leave a comment with the conference you’re attending this year, your favorite Delphine business card design (check them all out here), and the ink colors you’d choose (play with our exclusive customizer to pick your faves). Using our fun customizer, you’ll be able to see what your cards will look like ahead of time. (Don’t worry, if you win you can always change your mind and order something different). Of course also leave your name, name of your blog and email so we can get in touch with the winners. Deadline to enter is February 4, 2012 at midnight (Pacific time). Winners will be chosen randomly and announced on February 5, 2012.

Beach Scavenger Hunt Birthday Party

beach party scavenger hunt birthday party invitationseaside beach in cardiff by the sea california8 year old birthday beach party carfiff californiabeach party scavenger hunt tide poolsfootball at sunset on the beach in cardiff by the sea californiafavorite gift home made birthday cardIt’s hard to believe my little one is already eight years old! This year for his birthday he requested a beach party scavenger hunt at Seaside Beach in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

The kids got “a little” wet (some of them actually went swimming!) and had a blast searching for treasures like sea anemones, feathers, shells, lobster, surfers, swimming dogs, and whales. We spotted nearly everything on the list (including swimming dogs, excluding whales).

We celebrated with pizza, cupcakes and lemonade for the kiddos … and yummy cheese, warm coffee and cupcakes for the parents. One of the best parts of the party for me is the crazy easy setup and break down … all I brought was snacks, a drink bucket, a rollup portable table and some picnic blankets. I let Mother Nature do ALL the decorating! I did put together some goodie bags for the kids, with custom stickers, candy and a whoopie cushion. They are 8 year olds, after all. What could be better than sugar and a whoopie cushion?!

Happy birthday to my little guppy!

2012 USPS Postage Rates for Wedding Invitations

2012 wedding invitation postage rates uspsThe USPS is raising rates in a few days (January 22, 2012). I can’t wait to see the new stamps. I’m particularly looking forward to the new bonsaii and cherry blossom ones.

Now is a good time to stock up on those Forever stamps! And remember if you are sending out invitations with reply envelopes you expect to receive after January 22nd to put an extra penny stamp on them to ensure delivery back to you.

Here’s a quick guide to 2012 USPS rates as they apply to most wedding invitations:

  • Save the date, Reply Envelope (with single reply card inside), Single card/invitation: 45 cents
  • Invitation set (invitation, reply card, reply envelope, and another card or two, up to 2 oz.): 65 cents
  • Response postcard: 32 cents

Keep in mind: square envelopes/postcards, non-bendable envelopes, and extra thick envelopes don’t fit through the USPS machines, so there is an additional fee for being non-machinable — check with local post office for rates or use the usps’s handy postage price calculator.

Besides buying stamps at your local post office, you can buy official USPS stamps online at USPS.com. There are lots of pretty ones to choose from. If you’re looking for something a bit more custom, check out Delphine’s Zazzle shop with stamps to match most of our invitation designs. If you don’t see what you’d like, or need the colors/monogram switched out just let us know and we’ll whip something up for you.

Dear Delphine, How do I incorporate my fiancé’s military rank into our wedding invitation?

Dear Delphine Stationery Etiquette and Tips

Dear Delphine,
My fiancé is a Marine. How do we incorporate his rank into the invitation? Should it be abbreviated? Does it go under his name?

Thanks for your advice,
Jessica M.
Jacksonville, FL

Dear Jessica,
The traditional way to incorporate a military rank is like this:

Full Rank Full Name, Military Branch

First Lieutenant John Arquette, United States Marine Corps
or
First Lieutenant John Arquette, USMC

To save space, it is okay to abbreviate the military branch. It is also okay to split the name into two lines (Full Rank Full Name on first line — Military Branch on second line).

Rank should be spelled out in full whenever possible. This same protocol should be followed when addressing envelopes to members of the military.

I married a Marine, too! USMC weddings are fun. Tip from experience: order extra booze.

Warm regards,
Erika
