design is art: show

This year I decided not to do any holiday trunk shows. I love them while I’m there mingling with shoppers and other vendors, but all the prep work is just too much this year with the rest of our workload.

HOWEVER I could not pass up the opportunity to exhibit my graphic design “work” as “art” at a fun show coming up tomorrow night at Basic in the East Village neighborhood of San Diego, CA. Graphic designer/artist Terri Mitchell (whom I met through my North County Graphic Designers group) invited me to participate, alongside a group of other local graphic designers. I can’t wait to see what everyone brings. I’ll bring some limited edition letterpress prints, cards, totes and other goodies. It will be fun to see where the line between ART and WORK blurs.

My friend Jennifer Price from SoLo will also be there with a Pop Up shop. If you like vintage industrial repurposed cool stuff you do not want to miss seeing Jen’s work!

PLEASE JOIN US for DESIGN IS ART? SHOW TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 30 at BASIC: 7pm – late.

holiday sparkle

May your holidays sparkle!

This weekend I made some giltter Christmas ornaments to help decorate the house this year. Some of which are for sale in mom’s Etsy shop, Sainte Beatrice!

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. xoxoxo, E.

la lune et le soleil prints

How fab are these limited edition prints from Double Merrick?!? The moon print would look amazing in our son’s new grey and blue bedroom. Santa?

Inspired by vintage classroom wall charts, they have a very cool, retro vibe. Want to learn some French slang to describe something way cool? Say, “C’est La Vache!” Which translates literally to “It’s the cow!” Weird, but in French slang the meaning is “It’s so cool” (or “it’s the bomb,” or “it’s the shit”).

Scoot over to Double Merrick’s shop before all the prints are gone. Vite (quickly). It’s a limited edition run of just 25 pair.

renovation: plaid for the big boy bedroom

photos by DELPHINE

FINALLY! The plaid dresser is done and put in A’s bedroom. To be fair, I must admit that the dresser started with light blue and white stripes, so we had a head start.

Ever since we finished the room the cat has started hanging out in there.

color palette: puppy love

I pulled inspiration for this soothing autumnal color palette (full of soft taupes, pinks and greens) from one of my favorite photos of all time: a portrait of a toddler with her puppy. Photo by the extraordinarily talented kids photographer Jessica Davis Photography.

Morning Coffee Meetups return!

Join us Wednesday, November 24, 2010
8 am – 9 am at E Street Café in Encinitas, California

Kick off the day on a positive note with other North County graphic designers. No agenda, just say hello and get to know each other and share some great coffee. If you’re really not a morning person or are just plain cranky until the caffeine kicks in [ahem… me], then just “nod” and take time to adjust to the morning sunshine. We look forward to seeing you! All creatives welcome.

R.s.v.p. to erika@delphinepress.com, or leave a comment on this blog. Join our LinkedIn group: do a GROUPS search for “North County Graphic Designers” on LinkedIn to join.

week in review

This week flew by, didn’t it? We had a little party at our son’s school, which really made me realize how close the holidays are!

In case you missed it, here’s what happened on the blog this week:

• We celebrated Mémé Delphine’s birthday.

• We started a massive studio cleanup and listed some treasures on Ebay. (Yes, we’ll have a warehouse sale soon!)

• An in-depth behind the scenes peek at what goes into a massive photo shoot at Delphine, as well as final photos from our recent 2011 desk calendar photo shoot.

• Spotlight on artist Kevin Gilmore’s paintings, which I happened upon in a Brooklyn wine shop.

• An update on our son’s Big Boy Bedroom renovation.

• New font discovery/new to my wish list: ambicase modern.
