summer reading: stories from my home town

Just added to my wish list: two new books by Lowcountry authors Pat Conroy and Dorothea Benton Frank. I’m almost afraid to read them because I know they will bring on terrible homesickness.

wish list: amy butler bedding

It’s been too hot this summer to paint our bedroom, as we had planned. But as soon as it’s done I would really love to get some new bedding from Amy Butler’s new (first) collection of organic bedding. So many wonderful choices!

bejeweled: fanciful fish

I wore my new fishy necklace the other day. It’s pretty wacky and big (the fish is about 4 inches long) for me, but there’s just something about it that I love. As a rule, I don’t buy much jewelry since I’m able to “borrow” from my mom’s inventory (she’s a jewelry designer). But at $4.80 I couldn’t pass this fishy up. I got it at Forever 21. For less than five bucks. Did I mention that it cost less than five dollars? For real.

ajax the kitten

Our new kitten, Ajax, is four months old now. He has discovered the photo “studio” and is turning out to be a big ham. We adopted him at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.

jane marvel

I’m a big Jane Marvel fan. I use their overhead bag (medium size) each time I travel, and I have an old giant canvas tote bag that’s about 7 years old that I looooove. So happy to see that they have just shipped their 5,000th order. To celebrate they are giving away a free zip around wallet with each order (while supplies last). Shop here. Congratulations Jane Marvel!

adorable animal art

Delphine intern Tori says: These little animal vases and sculptures are made by California artist Joanna Medicino. Each is hand thrown, so no two are the same. I love the clean and simple lines. Not to mention they are just too cute! My favorite is the hamster : ) You can see more of her work in her Etsy shop.

Delphine says: We had the pleasure of exhibiting at SFIGF across the aisle from Joanna a few years ago. And we, too, fell in love with her vases. In fact we have a few (the penguin and a modern mini bud vase) that we traded for stationery and a few shelves that we didn’t want to take home with us after the show. Best trade at a show EVER!

flower we love: craspedia

photo from Growers Box.

With a name like Craspedia it’s no wonder that these darling gum ball flowers have a pseudonym: Billy Buttons. Aren’t they cool?

I love how this couple (photographed by the uber-talented Heather of Vallentyne Photography) used the flowers as a boutonneire.

Great color combo: mai tai (creamy pinkish coral) and cloudy grey. So dreamy. Photo of the Delphine Ava design.

font geek moment: worstveld sling

Yes, I’ll admit it, I am a typography nut. I’ve been known to purchase a font that costs more than 100 dollars. But today I ran across a font called Worstveld Sling, which has seven variations, and is 100 percent free! I’m downright giddy. You can download it here at Fontspace.
