weddings: in love with accessories

photos by vallentyne photography ~ jewelry and hair accessories by the tiara room

Just gorgeous! I’m really liking this trend of feather-y head gear for bridal couture, instead of super sparkly tiara (which sometimes seems a little Hello, Kitty to me).

books: talent is not enough: business secrets for designers

Shel Perkins spoke at the Y Conference a few days ago and he was just wonderful. For someone like me, who has a minor panic attack any time an Excel spreadsheet appears, it was nice to get some advice that addresses the practical side of running a business — all without scary charts full of numbers.

twilight party

OMG. Maybe because Robert Pattinson was born when I was in sixth grade he makes me feel like a giggly sixth-grader. I was going to post about my client Peggy Sirota, complete with photos of the letterpress letterhead I designed and printed for her. Instead I’ll leave you with this gorgeous photo she took for Vanity Fair magazine of the stars of Twilight. Do I feel a Twilight slumber party coming on? Carrie? Barbie? Torri? Anyone?

Happy weekend y’all!

just a little something i picked up

One of my all-time favorite books: The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, now comes in a COLORING BOOK version. I bought it yesterday and am really looking forward to coloring it in with my five-year-old.

mmmmmm … cupcakes

I’m sorting through photos from last weekend’s Little Lamb baby shower (hosted at my place for my dear friend Carrie), trying to pick the best ones to share, but I can’t get past the cupcake ones without my mouth watering. I love a good cupcake, but the baker of these cupcakes (Alex, you rock!) took it to a whole new level by poking holes in these freshly baked cupcakes and drizzling liquid lemon/sugar mixture into the cake, before adding the icing. W O W. I watched the guest sitting next to me at the shower (you know who you are) wolf down three. Needless to say, there are no leftovers.

we heart a good sale: 30 percent off at violet.com

Last night I had a dream that I was birthday present shopping for a friend, and this morning this 30 percent off offer from Violet.com landed in my inbox. I think someone is trying to tell me something? Like I need to pay attention to the calendar and my friends’ birthdays?!?

I’m loving this Paul Smith-esque paper weight, minimalist white calculator (for some reason my brain is telling me I need this calculator), and the funky Modern Alchemy candle (I have no idea what it smells like, but love the packaging!). All from Violet.com. I’ve always loved their website because you can search gifts by the recipient’s personality type (I seem to know a lot of A+ types!). And the site is beautiful, making shopping a nice design experience.

Enter in the code SP309 at checkout to get 30 percent off anything in the store. Sale ends Friday, March 27, 2009.

real wedding: cotton

photos by Marisu Wehrenberg of Zoom-Works.com

Back in January I posted a photo from Nate and Jacqueline’s darling Georgia wedding, and a few of you asked for more. The couple took Georgia cotton as the theme for their wedding (Nate drew the cotton ball that inspired the whole idea). They were married at Tucker Plantation in rural Georgia. Thanks so much to Marisu and Shannah at ZoomWorks for sharing their gorgeous photos. I particularly like the boutonneire and the green pickup. My grandfather, Samuel, had a green pickup just like that. Love it!

step and repeat

A few weeks ago while in San Francisco I snapped this picture at the Ferry Building of the butcher shop Boccalone. While they probably only really need one or two rolls of stickers at the ready, they hung up more than a dozen, creating a cool graphic element. When in doubt, step and repeat. Always works. I’ve used the trick many times when I have creative block and am stuck on a project.
